A Message from Touch’s Founder and CEO Announcing Touch Health
Introducing Touch Health
When Touch was founded in 2004, we were motivated by a singular vision: to improve healthcare access in sub-Saharan Africa for tens of millions of people by building and strengthening the healthcare workforce needed to meet the demands of a growing population and a shifting disease burden.
In our early years, we held fast to the principles of co-creation and collaboration, forging strong partnerships with the Tanzanian government, leading hospitals, and universities. Together, we've pioneered innovative solutions to address the most pressing issues within Tanzania's healthcare system.
We first focused on mitigating the severe workforce shortage, a challenge that left Tanzania with one of the lowest ratios of healthcare workers per capita. As we made strides in bolstering the healthcare workforce, we expanded our work into critical areas including maternal and child health, digital health, health workforce optimization, and operational excellence.
Over the past two decades, our founding vision and values have remained steadfast. It has been a privilege to work alongside Tanzania’s leaders and healthcare champions, including our friends Presidents Jakaya Kikwete and Samia Suluhu Hassan, in helping them build the future they envision for Tanzania.
Energized by our success in Tanzania, we decided to extend the model and lessons of our work to other countries in sub-Saharan Africa, including Kenya, Nigeria, Lesotho, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, and South Africa.
Together, we have impacted the lives of millions of people across the continent. However, we will not be satisfied until we see every person in Africa have access to the quality of care that they need and deserve.
As we look to the future, we are excited to announce that we are changing our name from Touch Foundation to “Touch Health.” This rebranding symbolizes our evolution, and the redoubling of our mission commitment, as we embark on our third decade of impact.
Thank you for being a part of the Touch Health community. We look forward to a future of better and equitable health for all.
